Why does our skin lose elasticity and start to sag?
Our skin is tightened by a structure of collagen fibres in the dermis in a network of skin cells, fibres and blood capillaries. Below this there is a supporting layer of fatty tissue with strong and elastic collagen fibres and the circulatory system.
As we age, the collagen fibres break down and become less structured and elastic and our repair and replacement systems become less efficient. External factors such as sun (UV) exposure and lifestyle factors can make this worse. Read more about the causes of skin ageing and laxity here.
This results in skin wrinkling and sagging or loss of elasticity leading to skin laxity. In body areas, where the supporting collagen fibres become impaired, the skin becomes less compact and structured causing a raised and dimpled appearance - a problem know as cellulite.

How it Works
The Radiofrequency head gently heats up the collagen in the skin, which shortens, causing the overlying skin to become tauter, and tighten. A course of treatment usually consists of 6 sessions, 1 - 2 weeks apart which will tighten the skin, followed by a treatment whenever necessary to maintain the results.

|
There is also a Fractional Skin Resurfacing (FSR) head, which penetrates more deeply, to produce controlled, fractional epidermal skin resurfacing with simultaneous focused RF dermal heating. This technology is usually used on more mature and photo-aged skin.

Often a combination approach is used for full face rejuvenation - combination Fractional Skin Resurfacing & Radio Frequency
|
|
A course of treatments usually consists of 3 sessions, 4 - 6 weeks apart.
The results of both treatments or a combination approach are due to natural changes in the skin, and as such are ongoing and long lasting, but will be enhanced with good evidence-based skincare, UV protection and periodic top-up treatments.
The benefit of the resurfacing, with a brighter, smoother appearance should be noticeable from one week onwards. At the same time, the dermal heating will be stimulating new collagen which will start to remodel and tighten from 4 - 6 weeks onwards giving a gradual and natural improvement to fine lines, wrinkles and scars.
