Facial and Body Photo Rejuvenation using Laser and IPL Treatments

What are IPL Skin Treatments?

Intense Pulsed Light Technology (IPL) improves the appearance of photo-aged skin (Photorejuvenation). It gives the skin a smoother, more even tone through a process called Photo rejuvenation for face and body. It removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, redness caused by broken capillaries and Rosacea. It is very successful on red and blue thread veins. IPL Skin Treatments using Photo rejuvenation help restore a more youthful appearance with little or no downtime.

Are patients satisfied with the results of this new technology?

IPL Skin Treatments using Photo rejuvenation are recognized for a very high measure of patient satisfaction. Patients are very pleased with treatment results because the process treats the full face, neck, chest, hands and legs rather than addressing a single isolated area or imperfection. With a series of treatments, IPL technology can help restore a more youthful appearance without patient downtime or a prolonged recovery necessary after other types of treatments, e.g. chemical peels.

Can the Laser and Quantum IPL system effectively treat Rosacea?

IPL Quantum can target the telangiectasia, (broken capillaries) redness and blush associated with Rosacea, the high power, short pulses and optimal pulsing technology available results in superior treatment for the symptoms associated with Rosacea.

How do Laser and IPL treat mature haemangiomas, (port wine stains)?

Port Wine Stains can vary in thickness. The Quantum system is equipped with two treatments heads that can effectively target the different depths of the haemangioma. The Nd:YAG head can be used first to reach the deeper parts of the lesion, while being marginally absorbed by the superficial telangiectasia that often lay on the surface of the haemangioma. Excessive heat production is thus eliminated. Following a few sessions with the Nd:YAG, the IPL can be used to treat the remaining superficial blood vessels.

What are the advantages of Laser Nd: YAG technology?

The Laser technology provides multiple synchronized pulsing to selectively heat blood vessels of different sizes and depths. The wavelength of light and pulsing characteristics of the system allow the energy to be virtually invisible to the epidermal melanin, thus protecting the skin and allowing treatment of all skin types and mildly tanned skin. Normally only a few pulses of the laser are required to achieve complete closure and sealing of the vessels. The sapphire cooled Nd: YAG treatment head, available in the IPL Quantum DL increases patient comfort. The spot size of the Nd: YAG head allows accurate targeting of broken vessels, thread veins anywhere on the body including larger telangiectasia, (broken veins) on the face.

How does high-tech laser/light technology compare to traditional sclerotherapy for thread vein removal?

The combined light sources of IPL and Nd: YAG offer important benefits over injection therapy. The combination of IPL and Nd: YAG therapy allows treatment of injectable leg veins as well as matting and small spider vessels that are often too small to inject. In addition laser / light therapy is fast, less painful; minimally invasive without needles; and typically does not require compression wrapping.

Are there any side effects with Laser or IPL treatments?

In the correct hands, Laser and IPL treatments are very safe. These are essentially light, converted to heat treatments so if there are any problems they are heat related. It would be normal to see temporary reddening and sometimes a small amount of swelling in the treated areas. There is no prolonged downtime. It is important that you are not sun tanned for the treatment.

How do I find the right Practitioner?

Always ensure that the clinic is registered and approved by the Care Quality Commission. Clinic inspection reports are available to view at www.cqc.org.uk.

Ensure that only experienced qualified Doctors and Nurses carry out the treatment.
