Dermal Fillers

The products that Suffolk Medical Clinic use contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, so that the procedure is virtually pain-free.

The Fillers are injected under the skin (using the tiniest needle) to 'plump' it out from beneath, so softening the overlying line or wrinkle, or replacing volume lost.

Dermal Fillers are usually made from a naturally occurring constituent of the skin, called 'Hyaluronic Acid'. This is a gel like substance, in which the collagen and elastin fibres  normally sit, giving the skin it's elasticity and resilience.

It is produced artificially, (not derived from animal products), and 'cross linked' to make it last longer. It is naturally, gradually and completely removed by the body over a period of time.

The product usually lasts at least a year, depending on where it is injected, the type of product used, and other lifestyle factors, such as sun exposure and smoking.

We never use 'permanent' fillers'. Lesley Ash had permanent fillers injected, and so the product cannot be removed other than by surgery!

Hyaluronic acid products can, if necessary, be 'melted or dissolved away' within hours, using a product called Hyaluronidase which is an enzyme. We rarely have to use this, but our clients like the idea that these fillers can be reversed if necessary. To ensure safe treatment, a test patch will be done prior to treatment.

Dermal fillers can work very well in conjunction with Botox® often having a synergistic or enhancing effect.

For instance, when Botox is used to relax the 'frown lines', if there are still some lines visible after 2 weeks, the dermal fillers can be used to complete the cosmetic effect. Also, the dermal fillers last much longer when  injected into an area where Botox has been used.

The Suffolk Medical Clinic uses a number of hyaluronic acid, (HA) fillers, including the Juvéderm Ultra range, Juvéderm Ultra Vycross range (Volbella, Volift and Voluma), and Belotero, Teosyal, Restylane and Emmervel.

We also use a non hyaluronic acid filler called Radiesse™, which is an excellent volumising filler.

Radiesse™ dermal filler is used to fill moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds - the creases that extend from the corner of your nose to the corners of your mouth.

Radiesse™is composed of Calcium Hydroxylapatite  and is naturally absorbed and removed by the body over a period of time, usually 18 months to 2 years.  It is very useful in re-volumising procedures in selected clients. It should be noted that Radiesse cannot be dissolved with Hyaluronidase, but will naturally be completed absorbed over a number of months.
