Background Information

Retinol is a form of Vitamin A, which has been clinically proven to improve the appearance and texture of the skin. It does this by reducing fine lines; reversing some of the effects of sun damage, such as pigmentation and roughness. It needs to be used regularly over a period of time to achieve these effects. It can also be used to improve some forms of acne.

Cumulative damage to the skin, due to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from chronic sun exposure may result in visible clinical changes characterised as photo ageing or sun damage. These include both fine and coarse wrinkling and a yellow, lax, rough and mottled pigmentation of the skin.

Retriderm™ is proven in clinical studies and assessments to provide clinically significant skin improvement after only 4 weeks daily use. Ongoing daily use provides further significant improvement and its long-term use is highly recommended.

The skin problems Retriderm™ can significantly improve include:

  • facial wrinkles, including those around the eye and crow's feet
  • skin laxity and tightness
  • hyper pigmentation
  • skin brightness

Retriderm™ 2 step Regeneration Programme

How to use Retriderm:

Step 1

The 0.5% serum should be applied to the face once daily, avoiding the eyes, nostrils and mouth. Retriderm is recommended for evening application only as its use can increase UV sensitivity.

Apply a pea-sized amount of serum, (one or two pumps), to clean dry skin, lightly covering the affected areas. Wash hands after use. Allow the Retriderm to soak in and wait until dry before applying other products. Sometimes you may need to reduce the frequency of application to 2 or 3 times per week, until your skin gets used to the cream, and then it can be used more often.

Step 2

Once the 0.5% serum is finished, start to use the stronger, 1.0% serum, in a similar way, and continue with this as directed by your practitioner.

Do not use more often than daily or in large amounts. It will not give faster or better results but will increase the risk of side effects.

Do not use on sunburnt skin, or if you suffer from eczema or dermatitis. If used for acne, apply directly to the affected areas. The acne may worsen at first and then improve.

Effect of this medication will be gradual with most improvement seen in the first six months of continued therapy. Once the maximum beneficial effect has been achieved it can be maintained by continuing to apply Retriderm Cream one to three times a week.

Side Effects

You may experience mild redness or stinging, itching, burning, skin scaling; peeling and dry skin for the first few weeks as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist please call us for advice.

Precautions

Before taking this medication you must advise us of any pre-existing skin conditions or allergies. This medication increases your sensitivity to the sun. Limit sun exposure and do not use sun beds. Use a high factor sunscreen (30+). You also must tell us of any other medication you may be taking. Finally Retriderm cream should not be used during pregnancy or if you are breast-feeding.

Retriderm should be used in conjunction with a comprehensive skin care and sun avoidance programme.
